Formerly administered by the Federal Government as part of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), this program was devolved to the local level with it's Provincial counterparts. Federal Non-Profit housing is owned and operated on a not-for-profit basis by community based non-profit corporations. They receive subsidy funding from the DSSMSSAB and provide housing for market, rent geared to income and special needs residents.
Federal Housing Rent Supplements
Federal Housing programs were designed to provide and encourage the creation of affordable rental housing. This program provides rent supplements to tenants in private rental units.

This program is designed to assist those needing adequate, affordable rental housing. A rental subsidy is paid to the private landlord, allowing individuals to pay rent based upon their income.
The difference between what you pay, and the market rent, is paid to your landlord by the federal government.
